Governor Cuomo Releases Provisional Open Data Guidelines to Increase Transparency Among State Agencies

 

New York Becomes First State to Publish Draft
Open Data Handbook on GitHub

 

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today released provisional open data guidelines for state agencies and public authorities to participate in Open.ny.gov, marking another milestone for the State’s data transparency website. With this action, New York is the first state in the nation to publish its provisional open data guidelines and seek public comment on GitHub, an open source platform that allows for open collaboration and sharing. Public comment is open until September 1, 2013.

Conference Brought Internationally Recognized Cyber Security Experts to Albany

The 16th Annual New York State Cyber Security Conference was held June 4-5, 2013 at the Empire State Plaza in Albany. Recognized as the premier Northeast conference for cyber security education, the event was co-hosted by the NYS Office of Information Technology Services’ Enterprise Information Security Office, the New York State Forum, Inc., and the University at Albany's School of Business and College of Computing and Information.

 

The conference featured a welcome by Fran Reiter, Executive Deputy Director of State Operations, a keynote address by Michael Papay, Vice President of Information Security and Cyber Initiatives for Northrop Grumman’s Information Systems sector and Chief Information Security Officer, who presented “Recommended Cyber Actions for Large Enterprises: An Industry Perspective.” Billy Rios of Cylance provided the Annual Symposium on Information Assurance’s keynote talk “Why every CSO needs to know Industrial Control Systems (ICS).”

 

The event drew over 1,000 attendees from government, the private sector, and academia to the Capital Region. This year’s conference theme was Helping Navigate Stormy Seas.

 



New State-of-the-Art Data Center at SUNY's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering

A milestone for the State and the Office of Information Technology Services with the announcement by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo that New York will house its new, state-of-the-art data center at SUNY’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) as part of a partnership between the New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS), New York State Office of General Services (OGS), and CNSE to make government IT operations and services more efficient and reliable.[April 10, 2013]



Enterprise Information Security Office

With the passage of the 2013-14 NYS Executive Budget, the functions, powers, and duties of the Office of Cyber Security have been transferred to the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS). The NYS Office of Cyber Security is now called the ITS Enterprise Information Security Office (EISO). Welcome EISO!
